ARE THERE GANGS IN CARSON CITY?
YOU BET! There are more than 30 different gangs represented by more than 400 gang members and gang associates who live within the Carson City border. Tragically, roughly one third of this number consists of juveniles. The gangs they are affiliated with are Motorcycle Gangs, Hispanic Gangs which include Eastwood Tokers, Clika 13, 420 Crew, Bambinos, 18th Street, Lima Street, Sureno, and Norteno; White Supremacist groups like the Skinheads and White Pride, as well as a variety of others which may appear to be innocent. Gang presence directly affects the quality of life in our community through such activities as truancy, bullying, alcohol and drug use and abuse, graffiti and other delinquent and criminal behavior. This behavior typically includes traffic and other vehicle violations, civil disturbances, stealing, burglary, robbery, and various assaults, many of them very serious. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has many deputies who are experts at recognizing and apprehending these gang criminals. Last year the Tri-County Gang Unit was created. It is a group composed of deputies from Carson City, Lyon and Douglas Counties whose primary duty is dealing with the criminal gangs in these counties. Their functions include gathering intelligence, investigation of gang related crimes and delinquent acts, arresting those who commit crimes, community and school based education at-risk youth intervention and diversion programs.
